well, here, hopefully, is sticks in his first public viewing. pete doesn't want it up yet as he says the guitar is out of tune. also he is wearing socks! but i'm giving it a shot. love technology

autumn at last

autumn has finally come to sydney - just in time for the start of winter. it's glorious - about 20 degrees C and sunny and clear skies. pete is upstairs with "sticks' attached to him and playing their guitars together in perfect harmony. i'll get a youtube thing hapening as soon as i can.
i've been painting with ink from old photos pof the girls. i'll include one of isabel. it's fun.

olympia's birthday

it's been birthday week with both isabel (17th) and olympia (today). they both played excellent games of soccer this morning in their respective matches. both enjoyed great wins and olympia scored a goal that saw her proclaimed girl of the game. exciting stuff. sydney autumns are a treat and i'm feeling a little sunburned after a morning in the sun.

lunch at the local organic markets at the addison road arts complex... yum. that place is so cool. there is reverse garbage there where we go to get inspired by a warehouse full of reversed garbage and the gallery where i go for life drawing group on tuesday nights, and the trapeze/circus workshop that isabel attended during the holidays.

back to the puppets. i've been tweaking sticks for weeks to get him actually "playing" the guitar in sync with pete playing his guitar. he's finally looking quite natural. a few more adjustments and pete will take him down to circular quay for a run. just as we gear up to busk with them there is a change in policy and councils are wanting bigger fees to cover busker's licenses and liability insurance. damn this litigious society!

once we get him out i'll film it and post it on youtube for some fun

the process

the puppets began as pieces of wood. jelutong - an indonesian wood very soft and easy to work with. i sat and whittled for hours outside our tent on the beach during our camping holiday in january. the hands are polymer clay - easier to control as they need to be able to play a guitar...

i'm going to introduce my marionettes. a sweet couple, carved of wood. the boy is called sticks and the girl will probably be known as "twiggie". either "twiggie" or "branche".
